How to Disable DNSSEC for Your Domain
DNSSEC is a security feature that helps ensure your website and emails reach the correct destination by verifying that DNS (Domain Name System) information hasn’t been tampered with.
If DNSSEC is left enabled while your DNS settings are outdated — especially during hosting provider changes or nameserver updates — it will lead to issues such as:
- Your website not loading
- Emails not sending or being rejected
- Other services linked to your domain not working
To avoid these problems, disable DNSSEC before making any DNS changes. Once everything is working properly, you can re-enable DNSSEC if needed.
When Should You Disable DNSSEC
You should disable DNSSEC if:
- You’re transferring your domain to WHC
- You’re changing nameservers (for example, switching to WHC for web or email hosting)
- You don’t plan to use DNSSEC or don’t need it immediately
How to disable DNSSEC in the Client Area
You can disable DNSSEC directly from your WHC Client Area if it's currently active.
Option 1: During Onboarding
When setting up your domain, hosting, or email:
- If DNSSEC is detected, you’ll see a prompt.
- Check the box to disable DNSSEC during the process.
- Proceed as usual.
Option 2: From the Domain page
- Log in to your WHC Client Area.
- Go to Domains > My Domains, then select your domain.
- If DNSSEC is enabled, a DNSSEC banner will appear.
- Click Disable DNSSEC.
- Confirm by clicking “Yes” in the pop-up window.
It can take up to 24 hours for DNSSEC to be disabled, depending on the registry.
