What should I check after my website has been migrated?
Website migrations occur when a website is moved from one environment to another. In most cases, your website will be transferred without any noticeable change and with no action required on your part.
If you have a custom configuration, it’s advisable to perform the verification steps below, this way you can ensure that everything is functioning normally.
How does WHC minimize downtime and potential post-migration issues?
Your site may experience a short period of downtime during migration, but our technicians will always perform the procedure in a way that minimizes any downtime.
We aim to schedule migrations outside of regular working hours (usually overnight). We also ensure that the new server environment is identical (or similar to) the original. This includes, but is not limited to; the operating system, control panel, and software.
What should I check post-migration?
Despite our best efforts, there is always the possibility that some items that may require your attention, such as:
DNS Configuration (Nameservers)
If you are using our recommended DNS nameservers, no action is required on your part. If you’re using custom or external DNS settings, please see What Are Your DNS (or Nameservers)? for further information.
Website functionality
If you would like to test your website functionality at both it's current and new location, you may use a website preview method. This can be done by either modifying your hosts file, or using an online preview tool such as SkipDNS (*not affiliated with WHC).
Email access and configuration
- If any emails are not received during the transition period, they can be synced after, using our Imap Sync tool, provided they were received by the former server.
- The connection settings (IMAP/POP/SMTP) of your mail application (Outlook, Thunderbird, Phone App) might need to be adjusted.
Custom settings, configuration, or software
Ensure that any custom settings, configuration, or software are functioning correctly in the new environment.
We encourage you to check your website to confirm that it is functioning normally and to contact us if you encounter any issues.
