How to Redirect an Email Address

Email forwarding (also known as redirection) lets you automatically send a copy of incoming emails from one address to another. It's helpful if you want to forward emails to a colleague, consolidate emails into one inbox, or redirect messages to an external service like Gmail or Outlook.

Note: The ability to set up email forwarding depends on where your domain’s DNS is managed.

I have an email service with WHC

If your domain is connected to a hosting plan with WHC (such as Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, or Business Email), you can set up email forwarding directly from cPanel.

To create a forwarder in cPanel:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. In the Email section, click Forwarders.
  3. Click Add Forwarder.
  4. Enter the email prefix under Address to Forward and select the domain name from the dropdown.
  5. Enter the destination email address under Forward to Email Address and click Add Forwarder.
Note: To delete a forwarder, return to the Forwarders section in cPanel and click the trash icon next to the one you want to remove.

I only have a domain name

If your domain is registered with WHC but isn't linked to a hosting service, you can still create up to 3 email forwarders from the Client Area. These forwarders work even if the email addresses don’t have real inboxes.

To create a forwarder from the Client Area:

  1. Log in to the WHC Client Area.
  2. Go to Domains > My Domains.
  3. Click Manage Domain next to the domain you want to manage.
  4. Go to the Email Forwarding section in the left menu.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Enter the address to forward from (prefix only) and the destination address, then click Add Forwarder.
Note: To delete a forwarder, click the trash icon next to the one you want to remove from the same section.

Important DNS Warning

“This domain seems to be linked to a web hosting account. Please use the Email Forwarding feature available with your web hosting instead.

You're a power user? Click here to use this domain's parking Email Forwarding details instead.”

This message means your domain is already connected to a hosting service, so email redirections should be created using cPanel instead of the Client Area.

Spam & Deliverability Considerations

  • Forwarding to providers like Gmail or Outlook without proper DNS records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) may result in emails being flagged as spam.
  • We strongly recommend following this guide to ensure proper setup: How to Increase Email Reputation of Your Domain (SPF & DKIM).
  • Avoid forwarding newsletters or mass emails, as this can affect your domain’s reputation and delivery success.
  • Only forward necessary messages, and avoid chaining multiple forwarders together.
